Look smart this Valentine’s day!

By on February 13, 2019

”There is just one happiness in life,to love and be loved.”

Let’s be honest, Valentines’ day brings up great memories for all of usWe all have spent countless days and nights to get that perfect look and it’s of paramount importance for those celebrating to be well groomed for the d-day.

Personal grooming can never be taken for granted as it’s an extension of who you are. As a famous saying goes” You are your habits”.  It isn’t a herculean task to be well groomed. All you need is some time for yourself and some simple do’s and don’ts to guide you through.

SKINCARE AND MAKEUP TIPS

  • It is better to avoid getting a facial or a new beauty treatment done just before Valentine’s Day or any other important day to steer clear of any adverse reactions to your skin. Don’t we all want to evade those pesky pimples and rashes!
  • Get a manicure and pedicure regularly for well groomed hands and feet.
  • Makeup helps accentuate our natural beauty. While makeup is an important tool to look good, one should always know one rule doesn’t fit all. Women tend to go overboard with makeup just to fit in to the Valentine’s day craze. For eg: Just because it’s Valentine’s Day our outfits or makeup don’t have to be necessarily red or pink.
  • The golden rule is to either go bold with your eye makeup or lips. If going with bold eyes then opt for brown/pink toned nudes or a muted gold lips.
    • Use right amount of highlighter to get that warm loved up glow on your face.
    • One should keep it in mind that no matter what which makeup look you choose to wear it should resonate with you as a person.
  • Accessories are important add-ons to your whole look and hence should be chosen wisely. A wrong accessory can turn the entire look to a disaster while the right one can take the look to a whole new dimension. Some of the key points to be considered while accessorizing:
  • Either wear a chunky neckpiece or a statement earring. DON’T wear both as this will give a cluttered look.
  • Your shoes and handbags don’t have to match either in colour or aesthetics, if you plan to wear dark coloured shoes then handbags can be a little understated.
  • Either wear bright clothes or eye grabbing accessories, doing both will only add unnecessary drama and unwanted attention to your look.

POSTURE, BODY LANGUAGE AND MISCELLANEOUS TIPS

  • Slouching and playing with the hair is to be avoided as you would want to give a confident vibe.
  • Maintaining eye contact is important as inability to do so can signal disinterest.
  • Avoid unnecessary hand gesticulation.
  • It is important to smell good. Choose a fragrance of your liking but keep it warm and subtle.  Overdoing the fragrance just kills its purpose.

GIFTING

  • When it comes to gifting there are no fixed rules. It is a common perception that women should be recipients of gifts and not the ones giving them. Let us aim to change that, surprise your significant other/loved one by gifting them something personal and innovative. It could be as extravagant as cuff-links to as simple as a personal handmade card. But always keep in mind what interests your loved one.

OUTFIT IDEAS

Wear clothes according to your body type and personality and don’t follow fashion trends blindly. Wear what you are most comfortable with you will be just fine.

  • SKIRTS: Skirts go well with shirts, tops and even tank tops.
  • DRESSES: You can opt for long or short dresses depending on your comfort level. The colour of the outfit need not be just reds or pinks; you can play with colours like yellow, green, royal blue or maroon. Even black and white makes for a good choice.

Tomboy Tina

By on October 1, 2018

It was just the other day when my friend was mentioning that her son loves reading books and his favorite one is Tomboy Tina who loved wearing dungarees and did not want to change into dress for a party. But, when her cousin Zara meets Tina, she understands and transforms her appearance by giving her loads of confidence.

That’s when I got reminded of Tomboy Tina that I had met a year back. She was in her early twenties and used to think that dressing up like a man would keep unwanted attention at bay. She wanted to portray herself as a strong, independent person, and especially as son of the family. So she was wearing clothes that were more like a man.

Her parents introduced me to her and wanted a transformation for her. When I met her, I realized that she idolizes her father and wanted to always become like him and in the bargain, had started dressing up like him. Now, she has become comfortable in those clothes. I worked closely with her for next couple of months and observed that she too wanted to dress and feel good but was not sure, how to do it?

Here, the transformation had to be internal first for it to be visible external. You have to start accepting your own self first, fall in love with yourself.

And, yes, the transformation did happen for real life Tina and today she is very happy in her personal and professional life, projecting herself as Strong and Elegant.

Journey of Inner Transformation

By on September 27, 2018

Personally, I always enjoy doing consulting for an Individual as there is lot of experimentation that can be done and most importantly, they open up to their innermost fears and apprehensions.

I specially want to share this particular consulting experience as this was one of the most difficult and life changing experience for the individual as well as for me.
Shobha was 21 years when she came to me for consulting much against her wishes. Her parents had forced her to come to me for consulting for her image makeover. She did not like Indian culture, customs, traditions or anything Indian. Her attire was restricted to Black Track Pants and T-shirt for all occasions. She was unsure of everything in her life be it career, clothes, behaviour or even relationships. Being the youngest in the family, she was pampered by her everyone. Her parents wanted to give best of best of everything that she desired or wanted. Inspite of this, She was unappreciative, negative, agitated towards them and in general towards everyone.
I took it up as a challenge. As an Image Consultant, I truly believe that its the overall personality of the individual that matter. I could have helped her in deciding the right attire but that that would not help her. My first step was to help her know her real self within. I helped her in her journey of discovering her real self. I had to engage with her first and made her comfortable to open up with me. I started watching her favourite web series to connect with her and strike a conversation. From then on, the journey became smooth.
Today, I can proudly say there is vast difference in her in the way she is carrying herself. Her relationship with her parents, friends, acquaintances have improved. She is clear of her career goals. She knows now, anger creates cracks more than anything else and has learned to control it. And, her dressing style resonates her personality – vibrant, clear, fresh, colourful and youthful.
Individual Consulting with Shobha has been a satisfying and rewarding experience for both her and me.
If you know someone or you yourself would want to experience change in any area of your life, I would be happy to help you and assist you in your journey. You can connect with me at asmita.aic@gmail.com or visit www.asmitaic.com to know more.

Cluster your Wardrobe…

By on July 13, 2018

In my previous article, I had written about the struggle women face when choosing clothes and clustering of clothes would be the best possible solution.

As per Dictionary, Cluster is to form or gather together. Similarly, in Image Consulting, Cluster is to form or gather together group of co-ordinated clothes and accessories which creates different looks and individuality to the person.

Clustering would help you

  • To break the wardrobe into smaller manageable groups.
  • Flexibility to buy and replace clothes on a piece basis.
  • Get maximum wear out of older clothes.
  • Saves shopping time.
  • Guarantees mix-and-match.
  • Reduce useless impulse purchases.
  • More Consistent Personal Style.
  • Simplifies your life.

Just imagine with a little planning and innovation, you are able to create 25 looks with just 5 clothing pieces and most importantly, your wardrobe can be manageable and with it your life.

Exciting, Isn’t it? Wait. No need to go shopping yet. You can first evaluate what you currently have in your wardrobe and how they can be used to the optimum. Basis that, you can create a shopping list.

Can Less be More? Try Clustering..

By on July 13, 2018

It was just the other day that my dear friend enlightened me that profit margins in apparel industry ranges from 6 – 13% as per industry analysts. It sure raised an eyebrow for me but was not totally shaken by this fact.

Being in Image consulting for 4 years now, have come across many clients who are at influential positions but still go through the struggle of not knowing what to wear for different occasion. They like everyone, go on shopping spree and purchase everything possible without being aware that the same garment can be worn multiple times with various looks.

Usually, Women, (i am referring specifically to women here) purchase one whole outfit and once worn in a week do not like to repeat it again that week or the subsequent week. So, they purchase different outfits and help the apparel industry to prosper. 🙂

It is not that I am against the apparel industry. In fact, I want to promote ‘Less is More’ and would encourage People to buy good & branded clothes which can be worn for longer duration and at the same time can be styled in various ways. Clothes can be clustered in various groups and be worn according to need of the day.

‘Clustering’ helps in avoiding last minute rush and everyday hassle of ‘don’t have anything to wear’. We can start the day with positive and relaxed way. It just needs a little bit of planning and foresight which anyone can master over a period of time.

I will be covering more on clustering in my next article.

If you need to know more on clustering or need help with your wardrobe, please write to asmita.aic@gmail.com and we will get back to you with your queries. We also conduct sessions which shows different styles and looks.
